I was going to suggest some of the Miller books too Dana for younger ones. Right now we’re reading Proverbs with the Millers as a family and 3 of my 6 are age 4 and under. Storytime with the Millers is even better for the little ones, we’ve already read it.
We only read one chapter/story per day, maybe 2. They’re short enough for little ones with enough talking points for the whole group on their level. Last night, for example, we read a chapter in the Proverbs one where the Miller children are sitting outside with a bushel of beans to snap or shell. They complain and try bossing one another around to ‘get to work’. Mom comes out and they talk about the ants in Proverbs. What I love is she talks about both the ant’s example of working diligently AND that the ants don’t have and overseer or boss each other around to work (the bossing around lesson my older needs, while some of the others need the working diligently lesson more). The chapter winds up with the children setting to work and finishing with enough time to play a bit before dinner. Sweet, with several applications!
