First post! :o) I’m new to the idea of Charlotte mason style so don’t beat me up for my current choice in curriculum.
We are currently using Bob Jones English and have used it from the start. We have slowly elliminated the BJ curriculum but this is one area I’m not sure where to go. Our daughter has been fine using it and handles classroom style learning just fine for most things (just so you know what kind of kid she is). I am considering Easy Grammar Plus along with Wordsmith:creative writing. I have more kiddos to follow and they are more of the reason to change…I don’t really want to buy 2 programs–one for her and one for them later. I want strong writing skills(she is enjoying it so much right now) but don’t want her grammar to suffer by changing to a new program.
Welcome, ckemonster. Great question! May I ask one back?
What grammar has she already covered? I’m asking for a couple of reasons. (1) Grammar is a finite body of information, so once she’s learned it she’s pretty much good to go. (2) If she’s been studying grammar for several years, she might be far enough along that you don’t need to worry about her grammar suffering if you switch. Since I’m not familiar with the BJ books, I’m asking this question. Hopefully, it will give us a good idea of where she is, and the ladies who have used Easy Grammar Plus and/or Wordsmith can jump in with their experiences based on that starting point. Thanks!
We are using Junior Analytical Grammar for my ds (12) and Easy Grammar Plus. He was ready for a bit of a change and I thought the EGP would fit his personality. We plan to finish out JAG, as we like it fine, but sometimes we have to do something different for a bit, then go back with fresh eyes to the original program.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with Easy Grammar (and can use it for multiple children if you make copies or get separate workbooks and one TG). Of course that depends on if you feel she needs the additional grammar right now, maybe she’s already covered enough.
