I just got this book from the library to see if I can use it this year. It looks really good, but I was wondering: do I use it for Picture Study or Composer Study? For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, it is a book of twelve paintings from the Metropolitan Museum in New York. It has an accompanying CD. Each painting has instructions to play a certain track from the CD and listen for a particular cue. It also contains brief intros to musical instruments and has thumbnails of the paintings/artists featured. If I use it once a week, I’ll have to renew it at least 4 times. I was going to spend the first term on an intro anyway before starting Module 1 in Term 2. Has anyone used it for both Picture and Composer Studies and used it twice a week?
While I am not familiar with the book you are talking about, from your discription, why not combine the two topics and use the same book. It sound like you could share both something about the artwork/artists and well as the accompying music/composer.
I have found that the more topics I can combine, the easier it is on both me and the kids. Of course things are very hectic at my house most days, so I look for ways to simplify. just my two cents
I was lucky enough to find this book at a yard sale and was so happy with it. I have a lot on my plate right now so we are only using it for composer study, but I would like to combine both or I thought maybe do one term of composer and then do another term of picture study with it. Lovely book for younger kids.
The product details on Amazon state it is for ages 4-8. The School Library Journal review posted with Amazon says grades 2-6. I was going to use it for a first grader.
