Can anyone compare the new SCM Narration resource with the H&R,T&W book?

  • Would anyone be able to offer a comparison of the narration content in SCM’s Hearing & Reading, Telling & Writing with the content in the new SCM Your Questions Answered resource on narration? I already own the former, and the latter intrigues me and I’m sure it’s wonderful but I wonder how much new info is there to justify the cost right now.  I can’t download the sample and it doesn’t list how many pages or anything.

And darn it all if I didn’t just order that SCM planner a month ago and a few months ago moved away from my beloved CM families, so who can I get to order with me now to get free shipping?? Grrr.

Just kidding. Hats off to SCM for even offering free shipping — very nice!

Good question, MLIP. Here are some comparisons and contrasts that come to mind between the two.

    • The HRTW book is mainly a compilation of Charlotte’s words. YQAN is mainly practical application of Charlotte’s ideas and principles in specific situations that moms have encountered.
    • Both include the Narration Ideas list and written narration samples from Charlotte’s students. HRTW has a lot more narration samples than YQAN, but YQAN also has a few modern day student narration samples.
    • YQAN contains three sample rubrics that could be used (or tweaked) for evaluating your student’s written narrations. HRTW does not have rubrics.
    • Much of YQAN can be read on our blog, since it is largely a compilation of blog posts. HRTW is not posted on our blog (though CM’s words can be read online, of course).

    Does that help any?

Thank you, Sonya! Yes, that does help! 🙂
