If you have some favorite fruit and/or smoothie recipes, post them here!
I love smoothies for lots of reasons. I make them daily for easy mid-morning snack to keep us going with healthy fuel for the brain and body. What about you ladies? What are your favorite easy snacks?
Here are some of mine – Favorite and base recipes. I also add in goji berries, flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp nuts, coconut oil, kefir or yogurt, raw egg yolks and coconut water, depending on what I have on hand.
As far as easy snacks we do mostly fresh fruit and veggies. Other times we’ll have soaked & dried nuts, dried fruit, popcorn, homemade Lara balls, cheese (string or sliced raw), applesauce, eggs, toast, tortillas with peanut butter, yogurt. I have a whole list of snacks to try. A lot of times we have “snack” type food for breakfast along with a smoothie.
Ours is a GREEN smoothie! Fill with about a cup to 2 of water. 2 bananas, 4-5 strawberries, and then pack it with spinach, or other greens (stay away from ice berg lettuce as it doesn’t have good flavor). this is a great one if it’s bitter ad another banana or a sprinkle of natural sugar. This not only gets us going, but it gets those greens in! Oh, and a scoop of a realy great protein powder is awesome if we need it as a meal on the way to a park date!
Like Misty, we love green smoothies! A great book to give you lots of ideas is The Green Smoothie Revolution . One of our favorites is almond milk with raspberries, banana and spinach. We also enjoy almond milk, banana, mango, and kale.
Great info ladies! I enjoy having a different kind of smoothie everyday, so I’m glad you shared yours.
My kids’ favorite (this week anyway:) has been what I call a “chocolate peanut butter” one. I combine organic milk, ice cubes, spinach leaves, spoonful of natural peanut butter (or almond butter), spoonful of flaxseed, spoonful of dark cocoa. Sometimes I add frozen dark cherries or strawberries. Yum!
1/3 C plain whole milk kefir, 3/4 cup almond milk, 1.5 TBSP natural peanut butter, 1 handful of frozen berries, 2 scoops protein powder. It tastes like a PB & J and now that I’m gluten free. I love this smoothie best of all.
I’ve successfully mixed greens into fruit juice based smoothies, but haven’t tried with milk/kefir based ones. Can you taste the greens at all. I love greens as veggies and don’t mind them in the smoothie, but I don’t want to taste them there.
I like the taste of the greens with some dairy – mostly with vanilla or honey yogurt. I’ve done some with some fruited kefirs (Lifeway brand) and haven’t had a problem with them either. I think it helps to mask the ‘green’ taste. But each person tastes things differently. Make up a small batch and see how you like it!
