Anyone familiar with the Browne Readers?

I was given one the other day (it is book number 2, which I think from it would have been used in the 2nd half of Grade 1.)  They copyright page is missing so I don’t know how old it is – but it looks at least as old as my copy of “Our New Friends” (Dick and Jane) that is from 1941…. and I think it is even older.

“Our New Friends” was used for the 2nd half of Grade 1 in 1941… and my 5yo (as of today!) is almost finished reading it.  Trying to decide if I’ll have her read the Browne Reader or something else.

    Contents…

    1. The Wise Little Goat
    2. The Baby Birds
    3. Fluffy’s Mistake
    4. Teddy
    5. A Bell for the Cat
    6. Gentleman Tom
    7. Dandelions
    8. The Lion and the Fox
    9. How the Fox was Killed
    10. The Owl and the Grasshopper
    11. The Naughty Coulds
    12. The Early Bird
    13. The Three Bears
    14. Red Riding Hood
    15. The Three Little Pigs

I just happened to notice “The Browne Readers” on my mother’s bookshelf and did a Google search, just to see if it turned up any results.  (My great grandmother wrote them.)  I found your post, and can tell you that the books were published in 1917.  I can’t weigh in on how these compare to other books, but thought I would at least answer your question regarding publish date.
