Boys of '76

Would it be strange to have my DD read only the first half of Boys of ’76?  I ask because she’s read Carry on Mr. Bowditch but not Johnny Tremain, so I’m looking for something to replace just those readings.  Boys of 76 is already planned out in the guide, but I’m not sure if the chapters stand alone or not.
