We are finally delving into Ancient Egypt next year. This book says it is for grades 1-3. I was wondering, from those who have read it aloud or had their children read it independently, if it would be far too simplistic for either my 10 yr. old and/or my 11 yr. old.
If it is, I’m sure I could find a replacement, I was just curious.
I think a 10 and 11 year old would enjoy reading it (or even having it read to them). I really liked it and my girls liked it too – though they are 5 and 7. It’s very interesting.
I agree with Rebekah. We read it this last year with my 5yo and 7yo. They really enjoyed it; and I think a 10yo could easily read the chapters independently and narrate to you after each reading. It’s a great book!
Rachel, if you can find “Once Upon A Time in Egypt” by Frances Kent Gere at your library, you can substitute this for Boy of the Pyramids. They are are both living books of children in that era. I had my kids read both because I liked them so much. =) Sheila
