For your high school students, how many books per year do you have your kids read?  Including both textbooks ( if you use any) and literature and supplemental books.

I’m trying to finalize plans for this coming year for my 9th and 10th graders.  Worried that I’m scheduling a little too many books for the 10th grader.

Let me think without going to look … this is for ~9th

1 Math text, 1 Science text, 6-8 Literature, 1 French text, 1-3 French readers but not completely, 6-8 Science Literature or Biography, dozens for History but we’re doing Ancients this year and I don’t consider what we’re reading that demanding, 6-8 Historical Literature or Biography, 2 Plutarch lives, 1 really easy Latin text, 1 easy Geography text (might add a book or two here), 1 Shakespeare play, lots of poetry, current events … I think that’s about it.

We just go from book to book so I don’t know how many we’ll cover exactly except that I know how often we read from them and that gives me an idea.  I can’t do that whole “pages per day, books per term, etc.” thing and so far it’s worked out pretty organically on it’s own.  I usually create longer booklists than needed to be safe.

    HTH
