My son was looking at the books by Brian Jacques at the library and I didn’t know. Does anyone know about these books? The series is called Tale of Redwall. Thanks
My daughters both loved the series, however if you do not like talking animals, who act like people, and who have a spirit warrior, then this series is not for you – however if you don’t mind that kind of thing then they are very well written and are adventure stories that strongly encourage honor and humility and things like helping one another. My daughters were in their teens when they read them, but really enjoyed the stories and the message. However, I know talking animals are not acceptable in some homes, so that is a problem if you are of that ilk. There is also a strong feminist type mouse in one of the books, so if that is a problem then I would avoid them as well. I liked them myself, and thought them very good reading. Linda
Agreeing with Linda’s assessment. My ds really enjoyed these books in his teen years and still picks them up from time to time just to revisit something familiar when he’s feeling overwhelmed.
Agree with Linda too. They weren’t a problem for us, my sons loved them at about age 10 or so, but after reading a number of them, as the child gets older, they do all start to sound alike . . . Nice use of language, though, and a lot of fun. There was a PBS series once upon a time of them that my boys also loved.
My dh has read them all when he was a kid (teen, maybe?), and we have the entire series. He loves them, and he’s planning to read them to the kids as their read-aloud time sometime in the (hopefully) near future. I haven’t read them, but I trust his judgment.
