    Hello, everyone,

I am in the beginning stages of planning out my son’s last few years of home education. I’d really like for him to read a few books about homeschooling in general and also about Charlotte and her methods in particular but that are straightforward and not incredibly long (for example, I’m not going to require him to read the CM Home Education series 🙂 )

Does anyone have any suggestions on some good books for this? I’m thinking maybe a book about public school statistics, the benefits of homeschooling, etc and then something similar to For the Children’s Sake or A Charlotte Mason Companion but more for a young person as opposed to a parent or teacher. I don’t even know if such a book exists but I thought I’d check!

    Thanks for any suggestions!

I believe it is recommended for all CM-schooled children to read Charlotte’s Ourselves from her Original Homeschooling Series. It doesn’t address homeschooling as much as it addresses the child’s character in general, which I think is very important. Your son could also read the rest of Charlotte’s original writings, although these are probably not what you’re looking for in terms of being geared toward a younger person. However, other than the two you already mentioned, I can’t think of any other books that fit your description. I think by high school, children should be reading more adult-type books anyway–in terms of language, not necessarily content–with parental discretion.

I’m interested to see if anyone has a suggestion that fits your criteria!

    Lindsey
