When I find my book in the Book Finder and Schedule it-I don’t see any place to add a Division. What I’m trying to accomplish is scheduling Outdoor Secrets, but only specific days. However, I do want to use all the chapters. Does this make sense? Would I need to enter each start date? Or do I need to choose Add Resource and go from there?
I am also finding that I have to (I think) Add Resources regardless if the book is in the Bookfinder. For example-I need to schedule ETC Book 1. When I schedule it using the Bookfinder it only lists 5 lessons when there is actually 11. So I then add the resource instead so that I can add divisions.
Marcee – go to the scheduler tab (not the bookfinder tab) and type in Outdoor Secrets. It brings up two pages of resources, and it is on the second page. Click on schedule it. Choose what student (family or individual) you want since you already have them entered. Choose the subject, study method, (and if you are not doing the book from start to finish, click on select stories) and start date. Then since the 24th is a Tuesday, click on the T and the 28th is a Saturday, click on the S. That will have you scheduled to use the resource every week on Tuesday and Saturday without re-entering the dates. If that doesn’t work for you, you can change the days every week when you are in the scheduler or you can just enter it for every day and ignore it until you finish a story. That way you won’t forget it or have to reschedule it. It just waits for you to pick it up – the beauty of an “out of the box” organizer. =) HTH

It is possible that the version already in the Bookfinder is a different version or edition of the book that only has 5 lessons. Fortunately, it’s easy enough to enter your own version of a resource when needed. But I wouldn’t expect that to be needed in most cases when your book is already in the Bookfinder.
By the way, we are working on a major update to the Organizer right now that will make it so everyone can share and edit the books they’ve entered. That will provide a huge increase in the number of books available. It will also make it easy for anyone to fix something like missing lessons on an existing resource.
Thanks Doug. I used the ISBN for ETC 1 in Add Resource and it still came up with 5 lessons. Fortunately I was able to change that by adding a Lesson Division. I have found myself using Add Resource quite often so that I can create Divisions and break things down. I also use Divisions so that I do not have to have any Chapters listed for a book. If I use the book finder and just schedule the book I do not have the option to choose “none”-it makes me select at least one chapter. I just add what Chapter we read in the notes section for that day if we don’t read the chapters in order.
I also wanted to mention that when I am in add resources and type in the ISBN for Outdoor Secrets, it cannot find the book and the same goes for the Companion. I needed to enter both resources with just the Title. I do know they show up in Bookfinder tho. So now when someone uses the Book finder, my manually entered resources show up with no cover etc.

When you schedule a resource you can choose which chapters to use and even rearrange them in any order you like. There is a link next to where it shows you what divisions (chapters, lessons, etc.) to select the divisions you want to use. You can click them to turn them on and off, or drag them to change the order.
If for some reason you don’t want to schedule which divisions you’ll be using then the Organizer probably isn’t going to be very useful for you. It’s best at taking what you’ve told it you want to do, telling you what’s next for each student, and then keeping records of that for you.
…when I am in add resources and type in the ISBN for Outdoor Secrets, it cannot find the book and the same goes for the Companion.
When you add a resource, the ISBN is looked up through Amazon.com so any books not listed there will not be auto-filled. That would be the case with Outdoor Secrets.

That’s not a problem because your resources are private for you. There is a box you can check to share the resources you enter but it’s unchecked by default and will only happen after we finish adding the new sharing feature.
Thanks Doug! I watched on of the videos after I posted this and saw that I could rearrange the Chapters. I’m trying to figure out how I would schedule a resource where we read random chapters each day, and they were picked by my DD for the week. I just realized that if I don’t use a Division (choose no divisions) for a resource, once I click finished it finishes the resource in it’s entirety and not just for the day.
For example: I need to schedule The Child’s Story Bible. We don’t read it in order. I can have it list all the chapters, but then I only know what chapters we will read week to week. The same goes for History Stories for Children-we read this randomly as well. What is the best way to do this?
When I have a book with divisions that I might read out of order, I will input my own resource with X number of Divisions and title them chapter, assignment, etc. and leave the actual division title blank. Then I check worked on or finished for that division and use the notes field to add details.
ie. The Child’s Story Bible might have 100 divisions titled Story or Chapter and each time I finish one, I check it off and label it in notes.
I do this for many things – Piano Practice has 12 divisions titled month (Jan, Feb, etc) and we click worked on ea day until month’s end when we click finished.
Also, when we read a lit. book for fun, I often enter with no divisions because I don’t keep track of how many chapters we read at a time.
What I do for “Letter practice”… (in copywork – as we do copywork I notice what letters we need to work more on, and one day a week we do Letter practice”
When I notice that we need to practice a/some letter(s), I go in an rearrange the divisions so that the next one we work on. I do have an extra division that I put in called “placeholder” though.
In your case, you could rearrange the chapters after she reads it, but before you mark it as done.
Keep in mind that you can schedule the same resource as many times as you like. So if you make a resource with enough divisions for one month then you can do things like mark them worked on every day then finished at the end of the month. Then you can schedule it again.
That works great for special resources like what you’ve described or for things like chores.
