We will be doing Outdoor Secrets starting this fall and my ds will be 6yo. Most of the books are at my library with the following exceptions. Can anyone suggest book substitutions or authors to look under?
The Robins in Your Backyard by Nancy Carol Willis
Bumblebee at Apple Tree Lane by Laura Gates Galvin
Wasps by Martha Rustad
Chippy Chipmunk Parties in the Garden by Kathy Miller
You could do interlibrary loan if you really wanted those books. Also, you can look up what your library does have on each of those topics . . .robins, wasps, etc., and see if they have another book that you like.
I used Chipmunk at Hallow Tree Lane along with Chippy Chipmunk but I think you could substitute it just fine. It is a part of the Smithsonian backyard series which is the set that the Bumblebee at Appletree Lane book is from as well. As a note both of these Smithsonian backyard books are available from Amazon for just $3.99 each with free shipping so depending on your budget it may be worth just ordering them vs doing an inter-library loan. I really enjoyed both and am glad to have them in our home library.
I also could not find the Wasp book so just supplemented one that I could find.
We have done about half of OS and reading this post and thinking back on the fun lessons and books makes me anxious to jump back in :o)
Thanks Ladyofthehouse! I was just thinking the same thing when I found out intralibrary has a fee of at least $6 (this does not include fees the other library will charge). Thanks for the suggestion of the chipmunk book.
LadyoftheHouse – thanks for the info about that series. I just snagged all 10 books in HB for $20. We thoroughly enjoyed the oceanic series, so this will be a good addition for us.
Oh, that’s a great deal Christie, I hope you enjoy them :o) I didn’t realize until recently just how many there were in that series and now I am excited to add to our collection!
