I am looking for a child friendly field book to identify certain birds, lizards, trees, flower, etc.  The ones at the library are to much for my 8 and 6 yo.  I would like something that has great pictures and tells a little about each one.  Also, small and can be carried in a backpack.  Thanks, Paula

The field guides by Stan Tekiela are nice and small.  There’s a picture on each page and a short description.  They have worked great for my children who are close to the same ages as yours.  You can get books specific to your state on birds, trees, wildflowers, and mammals.  I was able to find them at our library too, but I’ve purchased some from used book sales.
