We are hosting a 9 year old Chinese girl for a month.  She is hear to learn/improve her English.  We did this last year and the girl that came to see us knew very limited English on arrival.  Our girl this year arrives in a few hours.  I was wanting to download an audio book that she and my girls can listen to while winding down to go to sleep at night.  Any suggestions that might be somewhat easy to follow?  I thought of Mr. Popper’s Penguins or Charlotte’s Web or one of Thornton Burgess books, but I wasn’t sure if she’d be completely lost.

Maybe Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel, since those are early reader books about two friends.

Oh what a wonderful experience!  What organization is it you work with?

    Thank you.

Our girl this year knows a lot more English than our girl last year did.  That will make a lot of things easier!

We are working with a new and small organization called North American International Student Services.  I believe this is their 3rd year to bring students over for 1 month in the summer.  So far, they’ve placed all their students in the Northwest – that is where the US base for the organization is.

I can’t imagine sending my child to the other side of the world to live with strangers at such a young age!  Most of the students are teens, but there are a few younger ones.  The girl that is here now is a classmate of our girl from last year.  That is a nice connection.
