I made the mistake of not ordering my youngest a book from Lamplighter Publishing; I just figured he was too young to start a collection. I would still like to get him a book or set of books for Christmas but not sure which ones. I was thinking of just one special book that we don’t have, but honestly, we have lots of picture books (and I buy most of those used). We don’t necessarily have alot of book sets, except for Narnia and Little House (which we are reading right now). I was thinking of an audio book (maybe from Adventures in Odyssey or Jonathon Parks) that would be just for him, and that is something he could listen to on his own.
Any ideas on a book or set of books for his age?? I know it’s hard to make suggestions when you don’t even know what we have/don’t have, but I’d still like some fresh ideas.
I also thought about the Imagination Station set of 6 from Library and Ed.
Nathaniel loves Adventures in Odyssey and Jonathan Park and has for a number of years. If your 6yo is a nature lover, grab Jonathan Park – Especially the JP goes to the Zoo, Aquarium or Galapagos. (Most likely the Amazon would be great as well – we just don’t own that one yet). Since getting those, Nathaniel has been a walking encyclopedia for the glory of God!
And if you were thinking of a book, all my kids LOVED Uncle Wiggly stories at that age. You can find them used easily on Amazon usually. I know there are other books we;ve gotten the kids, but I’m drawing a blank and all our books are packed for the move!
My ds was reading The Boxcar Children on his own at age 6. I only allowed him to read the first 19 books, as those written after are not authored by Gertrude Chandler Warner, and are pretty twaddly. He would sit for hours and devour those books and then play pretend with them later. That’s the only series that comes to mind right now.
