Our oldest son has had a very tough year…the last and greatest challenge being that he just lost his best friend to cancer a few weeks ago. He’s been away from home for a year, and is now back with us and a house full of younger siblings, including a newborn…which poses some more challenges. He is 19 and still needs and wants to finish high school, but we really need to regroup and get him well again too. Do any of you have any thoughts on some good reading material for this season?  Something to soothe the soul.  He does read his Bible regularly, so that is in place.  It could be for him to read alone or a family read aloud, or father/son… Please specify if you think it would be particularly good to read together.  Thank you!!

Some of the most soothing books I know are:

    The Light in the Clearing

    Anything by Frank Boreham

The Hand of God by Leahy

You could consider the book My Beautiful Broken Shell: Words of Hope to Refresh the Soul by Carol Adams.

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/0736908706/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1E9MD7E69YLS2&coliid=I5ODS45XB32BP

The book is for people going through a rough time in life, grieving from a loss, hurting, etc.   It is a recent find by my neighbor who gave it to her neice after her child died.  It was a great source of help for her.

There are more reviews on Amazon that may be helpful in determining if this is what you are looking for in a book.  Ms. Adams also has another book, My Beautiful Sandcastle Moments New Beginnings of Hope and Healing.

Thank you ladies! I’ll be ordering a couple of these today. And I’d still be interested in more ideas, if anyone else wants to chime in.
