I need to pick a new book to read aloud with my 4.5 year old daughter. We just finished Wee Ann on my tablet, and are reading Winnie the pooh at nap time. We have read James Herriot treasury and complete tales of Beatrix potter. I checked my bookshelf and found Jane of lantern hill, Rebecca of Sunnybrook farm, a little princess, and Elsie dinmore. Which of these would you recommend we read first? She loves reading aloud and has a great attention span. If you know of a public domain book I could get free on my tablet that would be better, I am fine with that too. Thanks!
I would wait several years on Rebecca of Sunnybrook farm, great book, but the langauge/vocabulary is pretty advanced. Have you done Charlotte’s Web, Stuart Little, Trumpet of the Swan? I am not familiar with the other books you listed, except The Little Princess. That’s great she is loving read alouds with you!
We’ve done Charlotte’s Web, and are going to do Trumpet of the Swan all together with my 3 kids this school year. We could do Stuart Little. Hmmm….
We also read Little House in the Big Woods and got partway through Little House on the Prairie before last school year ended. Planning to pick it up as our lunchtime reading once we finish Understood Betsy.
Look for the Twins books by Lucy Fitch Perkins. She wrote many such as The Dutch Twins, The Chinese Twins, the Spanish Twins, etc. they are in the public domain. Girls that age in my library love Milly-Molly-Mandy.
