Hey ladies I was wondering if you could throw out some book titles to add to my reading list.   I would like suggestions of some good titles for several different categories such as faith/inspirational, fun classics ,  historical  ,  daily life – cooking, gardening, health.

Any must reads that I should not miss?

Thanks for your ideas and input!

I don’t have time to read as much as I would like to, pre-reading all of my 7th grade readers.

2 books that come to mind: The Red Tent

    The Book Thief.

    LOVED!

    • If you like herb gardening, Gracia’s Herbs is a great book.  I usually don’t enjoy reading non-fiction, but this really kept my attention and will make a great reference book.
    • Francine Rivers writes amazing books.  Some are based on people from the Bible and others are purely fictional.  The first two books of the Mark of the Lion series are my favorite.
    • If I want something more fun to read, I like Mary Conneally.  Her books aren’t classics, but are funny, enjoyable reads.

    Some I’ve enjoyed lately:

    • A Fine Romance: Falling in Love with the English Countryside by Susan Branch (She also has some fun cookbooks.)
    • Sacred Influence: How God Uses Wives to Shape the Souls of Their Husbands by Gary Thomas
    • The Master: A Life of Jesus by John Pollock
    • Thrush Green by Miss Read (The first in a series; I also enjoy her Fairacre series.)
    • And of course, a fun classic is Emma by Jane Austen

I’m currently leading a ladies Sunday school class reading through Own Your Life by Sally Clarkson.  Love all her books.

I like the books my Karen Witemeyer for a fun read.  Just reread Short-Straw Bride and I’m reading the next in line for that series, Stealing the Preacher.  Clean historical romance that makes me LAUGH.  So fun.

    • Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss is maybe my all-time favorite
    • Homemaking, by JR Miller- SO good
    • Health- I just finished Wheat Belly. It was a very interesting read.

I’ve also recently read all of Louisa M. Alcott’s books, the whole Anne of Green Gables, and the Little House books, plus Laura’s other writings (right now I’m reading the collection of all her articles from the Missouri Ruralist magazine on farming & homemaking), & the Chestry Oak thanks to seeing it on here. All great books/series that I never got to read as a young girl! 🙂

I second the Francine Rivers books. The Mark of the Lion series is great.

I like to read history and geography books. Right now I’m reading Cradle of Gold by Christopher Heaney (The story of Hiram Bingham, a real life Indiana Jones, and the search for Machu Picchu ).  Books by Thor Heyerdahl like Kon-Tiki and the RA Expiditions.  The Brendan Voyage is another like those but by a different author.
