I have a son who is starting to see changes in his body. Does anyone have any book recommendations that I could give to him to read about this? We are a conservative Christian family and do not believe in total transparency when it comes to adult issues. However, I do not want my son to feel embarrassed or isolated because of his changing body. I thought if I could give him a book to read first, it may make it easier for him to talk to us about it. Any ideas on this? This is our first of four boys that will go through this, so I would like to pretend I am a pro by the time I get to the fourth boy. Lol!

I would be interested to know this, too. My situation is a bit different as I am a single mom with one 12yo son. Add to it that he has mild autism and his dad is in a worldly relationship (living with his girlfriend), I am not comfortable simply handing the issue over to his dad and saying, “you talk to him, please.”

I am looking forward to everyone’s book recommendations.

My dh really works on this with my 12 yr old son and we have 5 boys total to come.  He will talk about our body, what can happne at night with boys and personal care.  He also will ask (sometimes to much my 12 yr old says) hey want to talk about anything?  Anything new happening with “you”?  My son knows what he means.

We have a book called Listen Son, it’s by Seton and it is a Catholic site.  That said I have read it and think you could easily take out the specifics and do the book and gain a lot from it.  I have suggested this to other families I know and they have done this successfully.  It is ment to be read from the father to the son.  Which I also feel is important.  But not necessary as in Sue’s case.  Cause there are time my son will come to me cause he says it seems right to be able to tell me some things.

Good luck!  Misty  This is a tough subject to cover.

We have used The Boys Body Book. It covers just enough detail, without going overboard. What I appreciated is that it didn’t really go into anything other then body changes, emotional changes, and hygeine (which was really important). The last chapter or so dealt with things you would encounter at school, and we just skipped that part.

Thank you for the suggestions. My local Barnes & Noble has the The Boys Body Book in stock. I am going to go look through it prior to purchasing. Anyway, thanks again for all of the suggestions. I am sure that I will find one of these that will work for us.
