My oldest ds loved the Mr. Tucket series by Paulsen and he’s not a heavy reader outside of school directed books.  And, I loved the Mark of the Lion series, but agree that I doubt I’d let my dd read them, if I had one, until she was a bit older.

I should probably do something similar to this suggestion, as it gives focus and limitations…we seem to go overboard with Christmas as well.

I told the kids about the new limits and not one complaint. They are all really thinking on their ideas for a want item and are excited about the money to share with someone in need. DS4(almost) said he wants 2 play flags (mini American stick flags), DD6 wants a locking diary, DS9 and DD12 are unsure.

My kids have never had a Christmas Wish List that they write up. They might mention something in passing and I try to remember. It’s always been me going overboard. I grew up with the going overboard (not necc. expensive, but too much) and I have done the same. We ALWAYS send out something for everything that comes in, but we simply don’t need stuff. My kids don’t get things throughout the year either unless it’s a need or they buy it. We tend to wait for Christmas and birthdays (which I don’t go overboard with). All in all, I think this is going to be a very good plan!
