I would really like to have a bunch of pictures in a book to do picture study with. Any suggestions? We do have some Come Look With Me books and I don’t really like them…I think it’s because I don’t really like many of the pictures in them.
I got one book to try with DD, but I didn’t care for it either. Have you looked into the SCM picture studies? We haven’t used these yet, but they look really good.
If you don’t mind having a curriculum attached to the pictures, you could look at Artistic Pursuits. It’s a combination of picture study, art history, and technique. I have really liked using it with my kids, though the methodology is different than CM because you are looking at a different picture each lesson, so potentially a new picture each week rather than doing one artist per term.
I just go onto Amazon and look up “(artist name) print book” and buy those. Always go for the used copies–sometimes you can find them on Amazon for a penny plus shipping! 🙂
I just purchased some of the artist sets from SCM, but only because we happened to have a little extra left over in the hs budget. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that every year, so these resources are great ideas!
I have the Giotto SCM study that we like very much. Something else I did was go through my old Queen Homeschool language arts books (we had a lot of them a few years back); I ripped out all the art pages along with the narration prompts, placed them in sheet protectors and then in a binder. We’ve got a nice collection of beautiful paintings. I also have lots of artist collections from amazon. I believe they were free for a day. They’re $.99 now. Still a bargain!
