LOL Rachel! I make sure my smoothies don’t have ice in them. After blending, they actually come out room temperature. Green soup smoothies are great too – if you blend them long enough they’ll come out warm. Smile Thanks for making me smile!

Vita-Mix for sure!! I use mine every single day. I make my own mayo, dressings, hot alfredo sauce, smoothies, almond milk.  It is awsome and I gave my older one to my sister and bought another. 🙂

Can someone tell me where they got their Vita Mix – when I am ready to get one (got to wait for one I have to stop working) do you go to the manufacturer, or are there good deals out there?  Thanks – Linda

    Hi Linda,

I got mine at Costco.  I’m not even a member there!  But the rep let me use his membership so that I could buy the blender.  Also, there are a few places online and even ebay you can check.  Blessings to you!

Thanks for that, I will have to keep my eyes open.  Blessings.

Has anyone bought a Vitamix from someplace besides CostCo? If so, where and which model?

Thanks for the green smoothie recipe!  I’ve always seen people drinking crazy-lookin’ green drinks and wondered what’s in them.  Now if I can only get my newly, ultra-picky 9yo Dd to try one…

    Faith 🙂

P.S.  How in the world do you make your own almond milk, and is it cheaper than buying it in the store?  We’re trying to move away from dairy and my kids definitely prefer it over rice milk.

I don’t have an almond milk recipe, however please soak your almonds (with or without skin) w/salt, overnight. The ratio is:

4 cups almonds-1 tablespoon of salt–in filtered water–Dissolve salt in water, pour over nuts, using enough water to cover. Leave in warm place for 7 hours; then drain.

This neutralizes the enzyme inhibitors; the salt activates an enzyme to de-activate the inhibitors. There are slightly different requirements for different nuts and seeds.

Faith, you can encourage your dd to try a green smoothie since they are SO sweet and she won’t even taste the greens.

This is what we do for almond milk….

You’ll need a blender and a nut milk bag or sieve/strainer

~ 1 cup Almonds (soaked overnight) or 1 Tablespoon of raw almond butter

~ 3 cups of pure water

~ 2-4 medjool dates (to your taste)

Place all ingredients in the blender until smooth.  If you used the whole soaked almonds (not the almond butter) you’ll need to strain the milk using a nut milk bag or fine sieve to strain the mixture so that you seperate the almond skin from the miik. Then, all you do is taste-test it and if you want it sweeter add more dates and blend again.

Its really simple once you get the hang of it and only takes minutes to make, not to mention its so much tastier and healthier than cows milk.

Shanna, we ended up buying our Vitamix off Craigs list. The model is the 5000.

    Blessings all! ~ Heather

Okay ladies, I need some help regarding the vitamix.  It has been on my wish list for quite awhile!  Amazon sells them too, but all of the different models are confusing to me!  How do I decide?

    Tanya,

I have the Vita-Mix 5200.  I bought it from Costco and did not pay over $400 for it.  We love it!

I just learned how to make a new smoothie called a Vero Delight from my pastor’s wife (who lives behind an abandoned grapefruit grove):

1/2 cup grapefruit juice (or peel half a grapefruit and throw it in)

1/2 cup OJ (or peel half or whole orange and throw it in-seeds and all)

1/2 cup yogurt (homemade for me)

one banana (frozen makes it extra creamy)

and then about 1/2 cup -1 cup of mixed berries

    Mix till blended–delish!

You can easily add some baby spinach to that as their flavor is so mild.  But this smoothie is so delicious that I’ve craved it every morning!

Thanks!  I’ll keep an eye out for a good price on that model.

Just to add a different opinion, but we just got a Blendtec and love it.  I was able to get it online for $319 plus free shipping which is much cheaper than the Vitamix.  Thus far it’s done a great job with the many smoothies we’ve tried.

Are the Blendtec users still loving it?  That’s the direction I’m thinking of going… because of cost.  I’ll definitely get it from Costco, because I LOVE their satisfaction guarantee – there’s about $100 price difference.  And do you use it for grain?  I REALLY don’t want to get a grain mill if I don’t have to.

    Thanks!

I’ve had and love my Blendtec for a couple of years now. I don’t know about grain because I have a grainmill.
