Hi all,
Quick question here: I was wondering if any of you had seen the 1971 British film production of Black Beauty? I’ve never seen this version, only the newer movie put out 10 or so years ago.
We are currently reading Black Beauty, and although I don’t normally show the movie after we finish a book, this *looks* wholesome. (i.e. I did not show Stuart Little after we finished that book, but I did show Charlotte’s Web.)
The reason I ask about showing the movie at all is because I’m going to be filling in for the director of a local benevolence ministry for two days next week, and the children (ds 6 and dd 5) will be with me both days. I plan on having other school-related things to keep them occupied in the afternoons, but the mornings are the busiest time for this ministry, and I need to make sure they are totally occupied in another room. Having a good movie on will enable me to help the patrons who come in for help without interruption.
If you’ve seen it, please give me your honest thoughts and opinions.

We have the dvd that was released in 1999 – it may be the same one. It has Sean Bean in it. We love it!

It’s not the same version. The one I am referring to was produced in 1971, and Sean Bean isn’t in it. I also love the one from 1999, but we don’t have it. My mother-in-law gave us this older version, and we haven’t ever seen it. Thanks for trying though!

It has some bad reviews on Netflix, saying that it’s not told from the horses perspective, that it’s more about the people than the horse, and is not at all based on the book.

Hi Lindsey,
We are reading Black Beauty too! My boys have truly enjoyed this book. I have found an audio version of the book to download. I know that your family and mine are reading it..but thought it would be nice to listen to it too especially in the car! It is at http://www.currclick.com Search for Black Beauty. There are also so worksheets to download there too.
We also have the 1971 version. But we have not watched it..I too wanted to see it after the book. Now, I am rethinking this?? We watched Charlotte’s Web after we read the book just like you! It was so much fun to be able to see the book come to life!
Let me know if you decide to watch the movie…for we are not finished with the book yet.
