While doing our book of centuries for history module 1, Genesis through Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt, I became curious as to which pharaohs ruled during the times of Joseph, Moses, and also Abraham. Unfortunately, Egyptian chronology is anything but straight forward.

Never-the-less, I came across a fascinating chronology that aligns Biblical and Egyptian chronology so that Joseph is the vizier to Djoser; the famed Imhotep (!), Amenemhet III lines up with Moses, Neferhotep I is the pharaoh of the Exodus, and Abraham is a contemporary of Menes. And further down the line, Hatshepsut is seen as the Queen of Sheba during the time of Solomon! This chronology has some very exciting and interesting implications!

Has anyone else explored these chronologies? I just ordered this book for myself called Unwrapping the Pharaohs: How Egyptian Archaeology Confirms the Biblical Timeline by David Down & John Ashton. Has anyone read this before? If anyone else is as nerdy as I, here is a link to the best article I have found so far regarding this:

Hope someone else is as giddy and fascinated by this as I am! 🙂

Yes, someone else is just as giddy! 🙂

I love this stuff. I get all excited just thinking about Biblical history, but when it comes to lining other things up and archeology proving the Bible, etc. I really get even more excited! You can bet your boots I will reading this article. Diana Waring speaks of this and I am pretty sure Unwrapping is one of the suggested resources in her latest guides put out by AiG.

Thank you for posting the link!

🙂 I will have to check her out on AiG, which I love.

Growing up, I always wondered how the Bible and the history and science I learned in school fit together, or if they did… Now as a Christian homeschool mum, I get to teach history and science Biblically and am basically getting a re-education as we go along.

I’m glad I found this resource and am anxious to dig in. If it makes good sense, I will probably be updating our book of centuries. Glad I have been writing in pencil so far, at least I know the Bible stuff I can safely write in pen, lol. The Egyptian dates I will probably keep in pencil still…just in case.

Thanks for the tip on AiG!

Another gidddy over chronology person here!  I will have to add that article to my growing list.  🙂  We just started Module 1 and our BOC this year and I put off writing in it FOREVER because I wanted to get a handle on accurate dating.  I think the revised Egyptian chronology is fascinating.

Really interesting stuff. I love this kind of stuff.  Maybe I should have studied archeology.

Thanks Susie in MS and Suzukimom for the great article (also I had never heard of Creation.com, another good resource for Biblical science/history!)

Looking even more forward to this book Pianogirl363.

Can totally relate, Eawerner, to wanting to get a handle on the dating. The more I read on Egyptian chrononlogy, the less confident I feel I will ever have accurate dating for this part of history! But hopefully I will feel comfortable with some approximations that align right with the Bible and other reliable histories:)

We LOVE Unwrapping the Pharaohs by David Down. We used that book as our spine for Module 1 and then incorporated other books and resources. It really does line up the Biblical and Egypt chronology in a way that I have never seen anywhere else. And it makes perfect sense! I totally recommend this book.

How neat… I am a history nerd! I’m going to be doing history module 1 with my 6 year old this year. While interesting for me, I wonder if Unwrapping the Pharaohs would be too much for her?! 🙂
