Bible time in our home is a priority. It comes usually right after breakfast. We are using SCM Joshua through Malachi and ancient greece now, and I can’t thank scm enough for such a fabulous product. I have expanded alittle on it and just wanted to take the time to explain. My parents and extended family can’t believe how many Biblical details they remember, as it is challenging.
When it’s time for Bible, we read a devotion, pray for concerns and praises, each child reads their scripture memory verses, we join in together as each child speaks (Age 7, 10 and 14) I whisper to the 7 year old and he repeats), next leah recites:the 10 yr. old is working to memorize an entire chapter( Exodus 16, she chose!) and then she earns a pony. I pray again for God to explain His word to us , asking for us to revere His Word and keep us holy as we read, Then, each child reads their written narrations to review what was covered the previous day in Bible, then the new lesson begins. This next part, I felt the Lord leading me to have each child narrate after each chapter. The exciting part is I am narrating too, so that they hear 2x per day very detailed narrations on what we all had a part reading and listening in. After narrations, we read them aloud and twice each week they get to call someone to recite their narration to a church family member, grandma or neighbor. Usually that person will ask my children in depth questions when they see them next or when they call back.
I know this system sounds very labor intensive, but isn’t our Lord worth the investment of our time, especially to train others up to love the Lord too.!!!
Our Bible time takes an hour a day, and we love it. They have an activity before and after. like, run and swing 25 times or have a race to the first road sign and back.
So when the end of the term comes and there are the narrations asking to summarize king david’s reign and life in it’s entirety, I am amazed at what they remember! I pray God’s wisdom is painted on their hearts” Thank You SCM! MArtha
