My Dad used The Bible Study Guide for All Ages with us growing up and I still remember lots of the information from the review and drill that it builds into the lessons. I was planning on using this with my kids in the coming school year but I guess I am starting to wonder how review question/drill fit in with the idea of narration……
I have been pleased with how narrations are going lately although it took a little while to get into the swing of them (my oldest are only 6&7). So I am trying to process if it is a good thing to ask review questions and drill facts (the 12 tribes, names of the disciples, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcement or if I should just stick with asking for a narration each day and then trust that pertinent facts will stick?
Not sure if this question makes sense :o) Anyone willing to share thought on The Bible Study Guide For All Ages specifically or just using review questions and drill for Bible study would be appreciated!

I don’t know that resource particularly. We are going through a book that has questions like that. We don’t do them all. Or I combine some and try and ask more general and less fill-in-the-blank-y questions. I do think there is some benefit in memorizing some pieces of info. We have been working on the order of all the biblical books. I could see doing the 12 tribes or such also. We memorize scripture, right?

I was considering using The Bible Study Guide for All Ages too, but became overwhelmed with the cost of all the additional resources. I think it looks great and would be expecially helpful for families with many learning levels in progress at the same time. I think there are many different ways to learn, and we just have to see what fits with our family. I, too, am nervous about narration as the main source of discovering what a child has learned. That is not how I learned, but then again, I’m not sure I really learned much of anything well. I’m pretty sure this post is not very helpful, except just in knowing you are not alone in your quandary. I think this year I am going to try the SCM Module 1 for Bible/History/Geography and see how it goes first. I like having Bible combined with history and geography instead of standing alone by itself. Good luck!

Just thought I would share- we use Bible Study for all Ages and have really enjoyed it! We did not get any of the additional resources, and my husband does it for our family bible time at night. I think it has been great for my kids to learn the books of the New Testament, 12 apostles, etc. I noticed my 8 year old being able to find a particular book of the bible in church more easily now. The review questions help keep what they have learned fresh in their mind. HTH

I was not planning to use all of the extras either, just the guide. I gues even with narration as my main way to review I do still do some drill….I’m thinking of skip counting in math, etc. so maybe if I have one of the kids narrate the scripture and then we all work on the review questions and drill it will be a good balance.
