Can anyone recommend a bible for my 5 & 7 yr olds to read independently? They are finishing up Abeka’s Primer Bible and I would like for them to continue the habit of daily independent reading. I looked into the Day by Day Bible by Karyn Henley and was very surprised to see the content in the new testament included sexual sins. “Man wanted sex with man” and ” Women wanted sex with women.” I don’t really want to open these doors at this age.
Any recommendations?

You may have a difficult time finding a Bible that will meet your modesty criteria. The King James version is the only one I have been able to find so far that, as my pastor says, “has clothes on.” One thing we do at that age is purchase large print KJV Bibles for the children. I suppose as I get older, I’ll trade them my small print one for their large print! Hopefully, someone else can give a good recommendation.

My 2nd grader is reading from the NIrV Bible which is the New International Readers Version. It is basically NIV but some words are made easier for children to understand. While it is the whole Bible and therefore still contains the passages that you want to avoid at this stage, you could have your child follow a Bible reading plan geared for children so those passages are avoided. We are using ‘Highlights From the Old Testament’ from this site http://www.pennygardner.com/oldtest.html
My dd reads a passage each day then writes about her reading in her Bible journal.

this subject caught my eye and I am struggling w/ the same thing. DS has NiRV as well and it is ‘ok’ but still a bit graphic (as the Bible is) and I find there are parts that don’t quite get the translation- but then neither does NIV compared to KJV. i like that it has little informational points on various pages to give further explanation. We have the NiRV explorers Bible- a bit more ‘boyish’ although perfectly acceptable for a girl;) Thanks Linda for that link. I like the NT page. as I was thinking through what to do next year I am thinking of focusing on the NT ‘love’ vs. OT ‘law.’ there is plenty of love in the OT but DS is autistic and is quite literal. I want him to focus on love first I think. We aslo have ??The great Expedition Bible which I bought used. It would be great to use with SOTW I think. We are going to go to American history next year and then double back (this after much prayer and searching out our plan for next year.) But it is a wonderful supplement to any Bible I think. (Even for us grownups.)
The other option if you are worried about the graphic part- read together… i know you said private reading but even sitting and doing your own reading at the same time could be a great way to answer questions that come up.
