I have The Child’s Story Bible by Catherine Vos. From what I can tell in the introduction, “A Word about CM Methods Used in This Study,” we are supposed to use a standard adult Bible starting in 1st grade and only use the Child’s Story Bible when reading otherwise unsuitable material to younger students; is this right? I’m a little hesitant to ask my 6 year old to narrate from my Bible. Is this something everyone is doing or are you using a Children’s Bible like the one I mentioned above?
I read my bible to my 9 and 5 year olds and they understand more than you would think. I have to explain the older language and vocab. somewhat but they understand the message. We just read 1Peter and 2nd Peter and are in 1John.
No child’s bibles here – we use KJV bible only regardless of age. The kids understand it fairly well. My youngest in formal school is in 1st grade. I read out loud and then we discuss.
We’ve read the Bible to the kids since they were tiny, with some editing. My boys (ages 9, 9 and 6) are very capable of figuring out what is being said. I remember them talking about scriptures, and seeming to understand, from the time they were 4 or so. I agree with Mrs. Jamie South, kids can understand a lot more than we think. Do explain vocab though. I’ve often added Biblical words into their spelling, copywork or reading lessons.
