Ladies! I discovered Bible journaling at the beginning of the month and I am loving it! I even started a new Instagram to post all my pictures (paintedfaith for anyone who wants to see)
I am loving how I look forward to my quiet time every morning so I can think on what I read to figure out what I want to paint during the kids rest time. If you don’t know what it is search Bible journaling or illustrated faith on Instagram or Pinterest. It is glorious!
Hi Kayla,
As a fellow Christian, I feel led to caution you about the bible art journaling movement that has become so popular amongst many believers. I came across this blog post and it really sums up most of what I was thinking. I hope this information will be received in the way it was intended…in love.
wlisxj, I appreciate you sharing your opinion in concern for Kayla’s salvation. My church teaches something different, which I hope will show you that Christian’s don’t mean any disrespect when Bible art journaling. (A movement, by the way, that I am not involved in but I feel called to defend).
…Since God has revealed himself in various images, most especially in the incarnate Jesus Christ, it’s not wrong for us to use images of these forms to deepen our knowledge and love of God. That’s why God revealed himself in these visible forms, and that’s why statues and pictures are made of them.
Wlisaxj, thank you for your concern. I appreciate the other view point. Which that said I’m not worshipping these images, it is simply a way for me to delve deeper into my relationship with Christ. This is not my study Bible, I have multiple Bibles out when researching, that don’t have paint on them.
For you ladies who are interested, I have the Crossway, ESV single column Bible. It is wonderful. My six year old asked if she could have a one to journal in too, so I ran up to the thrift store and bought her an older one (with thick pages) she loves it.
My daughter and I were just looking at one of these that has beautifully illustrated scriptures for her to color in and lines beside the text for her to take notes in. She is saving up for it and excited to begin! I think anything that brings Scripture deeper into our hearts and minds is of benefit to us spiritually, and for this kid of mine (who is extremely artsy) it is going to be a wonderful tool!
I am a frequent reader of Elizabeth Prata’s blog and I read that same article. I commend you for bringing it forward. For professing Christians, exercising discernment, especially with regard to trends, is important.
