What versions do any of you think are the best translated, highest quality, non-twaddle version of Gilgamesh?

ALso, what ages are the ones you refer to recommended for? Mine have read one in The GIlgamesh Trilogy by L. Zeman (only because it was given to us), but it has too many illustrations for my taste at their ages.

    Thanks,

Just thought I’d bump this back up as it was the weekend when I posted.

Gilgamesh Man’s First Story by Bernarda Bryson sold at http://wholespiritpress.com/gilgamesh.htm. This a reprint of a out of print version. Here is a snippet from the book.

Enkidu came to the place with the small wild horse and the gazelle.  As they drew near, the two beasts became nervous, sniffed the air, and fled. But Enkidu stood still; he wondered what new danger was near, what unknown beast might have come to the water.

When he saw the girl sitting there his breath failed and he was overcome.  He had not yet seen a human being, and this creature seemed to him the most admirable, the most enchanting being that he had ever seen.  He stood quietly in order not to frighten her.  pg.21 from the reprint

I think whenever a child can take in Heroes by Charles Kingsley is a good age for this version.  Maybe 3rd-7th grade.  I am not sure about a version for a elder child yet.

Thank you, Julie. I like the older books instead of the newer, picture laden, potentially PC versions.
