I will be covering early American history with my two 7yo sons over the next year or two. I have module 5 and Beautiful Feet’s book list, along with a collection of other books listed from All Through the Ages and the TruthQuest sample (I haven’t decided if I want to get the whole guide or if I have enough to read without it.) We’re not in a hurry but I do want to read the best of the best for my son’s age/interest level. There are so many great books!! What I’d like to hear is if you have suggestions of books that you think are ‘don’t miss’. What early American books did you love the most of the ones you have read? Thanks!

Any of the D’Aulaire books are treasures. Leif the Lucky, Pocahontas, Benjamin Franklin, etc. My kids enjoyed “Cornstalks and Cannonballs” and “Buttons for General Washington” as readers (from Turthquest). I enjoyed “The Light and the Glory” series for young readers (also from Truthquest). Oh, and I used William Bennett’s “Children’s Book of America” and just loved it.
