I’m not sure about the MacBeth movie, but there are special sharpeners for colored pencils that have soft leads. I purchased some at Hobby Lobby (found in the colored pencil aisle).
For Macbeth I would recommend the Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench 1978 version, like all the plays in the 3 sets, this is excellent and not modernised in anyway – it is the play done in the way it should be done. It is available through Amazon at $9.99 or I am sure the library can get it for you.
For pencil sharpener I use the Prismacolor pencil sharpener and I now no longer get broken leads. I use Prisma color pencils but imagine they would work with any soft leaded pencils.
We have had a time with a MacBeth movie. We just finished reading MacBeth last night. I “trialed” several movies and found every one of them wanting in some way and did not show any to the children. There were some that had me flabbergasted (nearly naked YOUNG women as witches????) I did preview the one missingtheshire mentions, but we had a terrible time with it. The audio on the disk I had was horrendous, nearly unintelligible, and it was a “stage play” that someone stuck a movie camera in front of . . . I had a hard time keeping track of what is going on, and I am very familiar with the play. I was so disappointed in ALL the ones available at Netflix I just gave up and decided we’d try to catch a stage production sometime. Just wanted to share our experience . . .
And we sharpen our good colored pencils with a knife. 🙂
According to an interview with Kenneth Branaugh I just read, there is an Australian film of Macbeth done recently; so maybe you can seek that one out?
Also, and I think this is really good news b/c a really like Branaugh, is Winter’s Tale is in production (he’s working on the screenplay now) and he is planning on doing Macbeth himself. He just didn’t say when.
Thought I’d pass that tid-bit on…
