We were just given a brand new Nesco dehydrator and dd12 wants to try making beef jerky. The dehydrator has spice packets, but they have ingredients we can’t have. I do not have an extruder gun and I’ve no idea what I’m doing. Recipes. How Tos. I’ll take any advice.
Hi, you don’t need an extruder gun for beef jerky. I make deer jerky with the extruder gun and ground deer and it has a good taste and texture, but the beef turned out really wierd. You can just slice the beef really thin then soak it in a liquid based seasoning then dehydrate. I learn just about all my meat processing skills when my husband started hunting from YouTube. There are a lot of videos and a few different ways on making jerky. I always like to watch several until I get a general idea of what I am doing. Recipies for the flavors will vary as well. Your best bet is to google it and find one with ingrediants you like.
Wardeh is done jerky in her dehydrating ecourse. Don’t know if you’ve done those or not. Her recipes would certainly contain no harmful ingredients. Today is my 50th birthday (HA!!) so I may not get to it today but I’ll try to look it up later and let you know. I tried a recipe once with ground beef that was weird, like Ruth said. They ended up as dog treats. I haven’t tried it with slices of steak or other meats.
Thank you. :). It was Monday and I even closed the library In hopes of taking a good long nap. Figured 50 deserved one, but, alas, other chores were more pressing so I ended up running errands.
