I just wanted to pass along this little gem we found at the library. I asked the librarian if he knew of any good ABC books that had beautiful illustrations and showed the upper AND lower case of each letter (my 3yo knows all the upper case, but not lower case…) and he pulled this off the shelf. It’s called Ian Penney’s ABC. Here are some bullet points:
-shows upper and lower case letters in font close to how you would actually print the letters
-has beautiful illustrations (this author is from Great Britain and the illustrations are based on actual places he’s visited in England, Ireland and Wales.
-there are “extra” things in each illustration that begin with the letter for the page (ie the ‘a’ page says “A is for apple” but then shows an acrobat, etc.)
I’m just loving this book, and plan to buy it now. We’ll be using Delightful Reading soon, so I wanted my little girls to have a really nice ABC book that met the requirements above, especially the font being close to how we will write them, and showing both upper case and lower case.
Ordered it! Thanks for the recommendation. I’m always looking for wonderful ABC books for my lending library. Also my adopted son will start Delightful Reading as soon as it arrives. This will be a great addition.
