The place that I usually buy my bathing suits from – Slim Perfect, went out of business, and I am in need of a bathingsuit. Where do you guys get your bathing suits? I’m having a hard time finding something that was as covering (and not frumpy) as Slim Perfect was. (I’m fairly conservative when it comes to my dress – I prefer my legs covered up to my knees, and no cleavage showing.)
I have a hard time finding modest swimwear, so I can’t help with a good store to buy from :(. Isn’t it sad that there are so few places with decent swimsuits.
What I sometimes do is to buy a jogging skirt (they are longer than the swim skirts) or some workout shorts that are longer and a workout tank top or running t-shirt with a sports bra under. I can usually find good things at Walmart, Target and the like.
That may sound wierd, but its water proof, covers everything, dries quickly and keeps me fairly cool.
http://hydrochic.com/bottoms.html is my favorite…but maybe too expensive. Here’s anothet nice one. And finally…My daughter and I just got suits from here http://meanttobemodest.com/. We were a little worried we might not like them…might be frumpy, you know…but I love mine! Rachel had her to make hers a bit looser cut so it wouldn’t be so form fitting at top…but that’s maybe not so good. She’s not real happy with how it comes up in the water. But we love the fact that we are covered and not self-conscious when we put them on. And that makes all the concern about frump go away! (But I actually feel almost pretty in mine 🙂
Oops…missed putting this link in above http://www.simply-modest.com/posecom/index.php There are several more that some up when you google modest swimwear or the like. We haven’t looked much further than this.
Anniepeter, I really like the skirts from that first link! I hadn’t had a bathing suit in years, and this year, I decided I was tired of never going in the water with the family, so I bought a swim dress from L.L. Bean. The quality is amazing, but I still felt pretty naked in it. I went looking for a top to cover, and ended up buy a running top, because I discovered it is the same exact material as rash guards, only lighter and cheaper – both things I wanted! Anyway, that takes care of the top half, but it’s still super short. I feel pretty uncomfortable in it, but my husband keeps reassuring me he thinks it’s fine since it’s so much more than others wear already, but that reasoning is pretty little comfort to me to be honest. I probably won’t spend anymore money this year on something, but I think I’ll bookmark that link for next.
I don’t know if this is your style, but I have LOVED the two I have. I bought the first one in 2010, and it’s still in great shape. And we spend A LOT of time at the pool in the summer! They are pricey, but I will probably never buy a swim suit anywhere else. For the style, quality, cover, support, and cute factor, I couldn’t be happier.
Ok, so after looking at the other links, I guess even the Lime Ricki suits may not be modest enough. I, personally, don’t worry about covering to my knees or past my shoulders. And my husband wants me to look cute in swimwear too, not out of place or frumpy (not saying those do, but those links aren’t my style either). I like being well covered but not standing out, if that makes sense. Sorry if what I posted wasn’t what you were looking for!
ETA: I don’t wear the regular bottoms. I have both the swim skirt and the swim shorts. Love both too!
My husband bought me a tennis outfit to wear for swimming. Its 90% polyester and 10% spandex. It is cute, a top with a skirt and fitting shorts underneath the skirt. I wanted something modest, but all the modest swimwear was way too expensive for us. This was on sale at Academy Sports for much cheaper. It works and it stretches enough that i’m even wearing it while pregnant. I think you can find tank top type tops and ones with short sleeves too.
I found a tennis skirt at Salvation Army Thrift Store. It is a very light fabric that dries quickly and it has tight fitting shorts under it. It comes about four inches above my knees. I wear it with a sleeveless running shirt and a sports bra under. Works for me.
On a complete side note I thought I would share this because
You ladies you appreciate it.
We talk about modesty a lot and covering our bodies, especially with our 4.5 year old daughter. I’m sorry but there is no reason for a 4 year old to be in a bikini. So we went to the beach last week and my daughter says “mommy! That girl is NOT practicing being modest! I can see her belly!”
Anyway I just thought you ladies would enjoy the laugh. You know then we have the God calls
Us to a higher standard and some families have different rules…blah blah blah conversation.
Does anyone have good links for swimwear with actual bras in it? I’m swimsuit shopping, too – my girls just took swimming lessons and a good friend rented a pool for ladies, girls and little boys only- so I’m looking forward to swimming for the first time in forever!
