Our 9 year old has requested to be baptized this Sundays. We would like to give him something to mark the occasion. He just got a new Bible at Christmas, so that’s not an option. Does anyone have any suggestions?
My parents gave each of us a little ring with our birthstone (more masculine types for the boys) to wear all the time to remind us of the promises we made at baptism.
(mind you – we all lost them at some point of time or another….. that is to be expected.)
We were also given our own scriptures, but as your son already got a new set….
(And I feel like a heel, as we weren’t in a position to get Delta anything when he got baptized…. story of my life.)
What about planting a tree (maybe a fruit tree) that he can watch grow as he grows in his faith. You could site Psalm 1 on a card for him.
1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
We have also enjoyed these CD’s for putting scripture to music 🙂
Why not make him a baptismal banner with his name, Christian symbols, and a verse you’d like him to tuck in his heart? It doesn’t need to be huge, and I’m fairly certain there are some free ideas online if you do a search.
How about a masculine cross necklace?
You could get a wall scripture or poster from etsy – there are several people who make them with a wide range in what is available.
Perhaps you could get a collection of letters from people (or you could focus on just men) who are important in his life. Have them write what it means to them to walk with God, their own baptism, etc. Place all of them in a special binder for him.
