I’m not a big computer games person.  In fact, I try to avoid them.  I noticed in the curriculum guide that the Bailey’s Book House software is recommended.  I’m looking for reviews.  Which one is recommended?  I’m considering it for my 5 year old who already knows the sounds of all the letters and how to write them.  Also, are then compatible with Macs?

    Thanks!

I can give no higher recommendation for educational software than Bailey’s Book House and the other original Edmark titles! They have an amazing style that gently guides the child in learning wether they do the activities correctly or not.

Unfortunately, Edmark is no longer in business and the software has been sold to other companies that have let it languish. A few of the titles have been updated with newer content that is just not as good as the original. It’s too bad because I’ve never seen anything else even close to the same quality.

There were version for Mac but it really only runs on older models now. (Macintosh System 7.0.1- 9.2, OS X Classic Mode, 68030, 68040, Power PC, 8 MB RAM, 5 MB free disk space, 2X CD-ROM, 640X480 256 color 13″+ monitor.) However, the Edmark titles are so good that it might be worth getting used copies and having an older computer around just for them.
