Rebekahy – please do have your friend add me to the list. I usually buy a large quantity about once a year, then scoop it out into quart-sized jars and use it that way. Same with my EVOO. Once I get the price list done for this area, I’ll send it to you! Do you know of anyone in the area that does a group raw honey order, or knows where to get it in bulk?
One way to cut the cost of butter (aside from using the Willow Maid (or similar product) for baking/cooking) is that for my baking, I usually use coconut oil (refined does not have a coconut taste). If it’s a product I want to taste a little buttery, then I’ll use straight butter or half butter/half coconut oil.
I know the refined coconut oil doesn’t have the taste, but is it still healthy? I guess if you’re baking it the heat of processing doesn’t particularly matter since you’re heating it up anyhow. hmmm.
Linda – they do deliver to Illinois (at least their website shows a route going there), but you’d want to contact them to see where exactly.
Refined coconut oil is still healthy for you, but it probably depends on the processing of it. I try to get it as minimally processed as possible from a source with a good reputation. Got the PM but need to do some research on the brand & price match it around.
Here are some articles discussing different types of coconut oil:
Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin – QAI Certified Organic $33.32 total with shipping = $36.32
Olive Oil, Extra Virgin, ORGANIC Food Grade $21.84 total with shipping = $24.84
For a full box, shipp ing is only $3/bottle. (6 bottles – just under $18)
The raw honey info I sent to Crazy4boys is just for those of us in Nebraska/Iowa – I’m not sure if they ship, but you generally want to get honey from as close to you as possible for the benefit of allergies.
