We’re leaving for a trip next week and need 1-2 more audio books to take with us. I have a Lamplighter one that I can’t wait to listen to, but was hoping for something else, just for fun. Not that those aren’t fun, but I’d like the kids (all boys) to ponder over the “character value” presented in the book before giving them another one to ponder, if you know what I mean?!
I have The Jungle Book from Librivox but have not listened to it yet and I will stop at the library before we leave to see what they may have as well.
Its not exactly an audio BOOK, but my kids love the Johnathan Parks and Adventure in Odessey Audios. Plus they are long, so they cover like 6 hours of a trip.
We have been enjoying the Focus on the Family theatre production of The Chronicles of Narnia on our travels this summer – I got the whole 19-CD set for about $21 from christianbook.com. They are dramatized, not straight audio books, but a VERY well done and the plot line very true to the books.
The Pond is a wonderul funny cd! You can find it a cbd.com The characters are an alligator, turtle, duck, and a frog! The voices are unique and the storylines are character building! They learn from mistakes, envy, sadness, lying, being materilistic etc.. They talk about what God’s word says and quote scripture. It is so funny, my hubby and I even enjoy it.
I think you can hear a sample on cbd also! My kids listen to them over and over. We got them several yrs ago when they were audio tapes!
Winnie the Pooh and some of Jim Weiss stories are quite lovely also! I don’t know how old yr kids are. Mine are 6 and 9!
I would start with the first one: The Episode Begins (or something like that). We like but have had to work on it the zoo, aquarium, Galapagos ones. They are not adventures so they are not as fun. However, they have great info. in them. We read the books along with them and that helps.
My girls are 8, 6, and 4 and we enjoy listening to Patch the Pirate CD’s (though not audio books but fun with the songs!) There are some great worship songs on these CD’s. They are by Ron Hamilton.
my 7 y/0 has listened to them all straight thru at least 5 times. she is a fount of scientific information…as the pastor found out when she started in about creation vs. evolution when he came to talk w/ her to see if she was truly ready to be baptised (she was on Easter this year!)!
we all love them! and she listens to the zoo, aquarium, and galapagos ones avidly too…they are fascinating…though we have a relationship now w/the parks and the brennans…and we got a fab dvd about the galapagos when we purchased that JP from vision forum and that has really brought those islands to life for us!
hope that info was fun and helpful
