Well, our first week and 1/2 of school is almost done and I am feeling like there isn’t much attention going on while I am reading to my 10 and  7  year old dds. Maybe Im doing to much at once? Our morning starts with Bible and then a 5 min break, then onto history, picture study, literature. I do give breaks. My dd7  attention span is short. Is this normal. She starts to wiggle and talk. It drives me nuts. How can I handle this? She sits in on everything we do. I am trying the timing of each subject as well. I hope my week from here on our go a little smoother.  We are using the Burgess bird book for Science, they don’t seem to interested. Any suggestions? Do they need Science at 10 and 7?  Would love some help and encouragement!

Have you tried stopping for narrations in the middle of the book?  We are doing that with our Famous Men of the Middle Ages and it’s made a big difference there.

We are using the SCM Burgess study for science and they color their 50 Favorite Birds coloring page while listening to the story.  They do well with their narrations, so I know they are still listening while coloring.  Some children do better if they have something to do with their hands while listening to a book.
