As the new yet starts I am going to try the nature notebooks again. My daughter didn’t enjoy it before because she couldn’t get the colors right as she seen then and her drawing skills at 6-7 weren’t up to par. Now at 8 after looking at tons of nature journal books wants to try again. Just curious, what brand art supplies do you use for your nature notebooks? I know CM was all about watercolor brushwork. I could start there but don’t know the best brand materials for price.  Or what medium is ideal or best for kids? I really appreciate your input and how things work or don’t work for you. Also is it best to have them draw/color/ paint what they see right there or snap a pic and do it at home? Thank you for your input!!

You might find some ideas from this site: https://raisinglittleshoots.com/2015/08/17/supplies-for-nature-journaling/

She mentions water brushes. These are brushes that you put water in the barrel, and you give it a little squeeze. That way you don’t need to carry a separate water jar.

Some pencils and erasers might be good to sketch the design first, to get it as desired.

Then crayons or colored pencils or watercolors.

It’s a nice idea to sit on a stump or a stool and sketch, when it’s nice weather, for more fresh air and day light.
