Ok so I found a great resource that I will be using for my 3rd – 8th graders next year for art.  Teaching about lines, colors etc.

now what do I do with my to be 2, 4, & 6 yr olds?  i need some simple ideas that they can be doing at the same time that does NOT involve a scissors as my 6yr old son still thinks it’s neat to scare the “beeep” out of mom by holding it near his sisters hair. Cry

Couple things I thought of: stickers, makers/crayons, playdoh, finger painting..

But what else would be good?

    Watercolors

    Chalk on construction paper

    Foam pieces with glue

    Stringing actvities like beads (necklaces)

    Sewing cards  .

What about some of those black covered papers where you scrape the black off to get a color picture (not sure of the name…)

    Hi Misty,

Just wanted to say that we found some nice scissors at the local pharmacy – they are plastic and won’t cut anything but paper – although I haven’t tried them on hair – maybe I should   😀

Thanks for some new ideas – I have some of that black paper didn’t even think of it.  Have to see if it’s still laying around here.

One thing my little ones really like are using our nice colored pencils.

I will make them books with left-over paper. Cut up paper that has printing on part of it. Or you can use 3×5 index cards. Staple a “cover” to the front and back. They will choose a topic and stay busy sometimes for an hour!

The little books are nice, bc they can then narrate a story to go with the art and then read them again and again. I feel like it is something that won’t end up in the “round file” tomorrow.

And I am going to try the chalk on darker paper. Haven’t done that in a long while!

    Keep the suggestions coming please!!!

“Cut up paper that has printing on part of it” (and cut the printed part off LOL!)
