Art Contests?

    My dd11 is very interested in entering art contests – sort of like the ones that are offered by HSLDA. Does anyone know of any others?

    Our local state fair has art contests. I am interested in learning of others, too. My ds9 loves to draw.

    I don’t think it’s a contest per se, but Nature Friend Magazine has a feature each month to draw a picture and have it included in a subsequent issue.

    I never do a constest art but it is a good thing to see people doing it and learning some to them.

    I was wondering what the pros and cons of an entering contests would be? Thoughts?

    Alicia, I’m not sure what experts would say, but I’ll give you a related personal story. I think art contests are a great self asteem builder. I won a local art contest in high school and went on to be a graphic designer for 5 or so years before having kids. That contest really helped me believe that I could pursue my interests professionally. My job was a blast and I loved it!

    How about a county fair?  My daughters enter art work every year and often win – the prize is $3, but there’s no cost to enter under a certain age so it’s a pretty good deal!

    contact your state’s association of garden clubs – they usually sponsor several art contests each year and most states really need more participants, so your chances of winning are good.  you would find out about the contests, then enter through a local garden club chapter.

    for instance I googled “arkansas garden clubs youth contests” and came up with this link for my state

    which lists several poster contests among others including essay and poetry.

    other local groups like rotary clubs and such also do contests, you can check those websites for your area as well. hope that helps 🙂
