I’ve seen quite a few moms on here mention that they use these books for Advent with the wooden Voskamp wreath.
We did purchase the 3 books, but we were not able to purchase the wooden wreath. We do have a Nativity Advent Calendar though. And we put an Advent Wreath on our kitchen table with candles we light each Sunday during Advent.
I was just wondering how everyone specifically uses the books? As Family Devotions? As Read Alouds? Do you read them? Does Dad read? Do your kids take turns reading?…

We love the Ytreeide books here! We’ve cycled through them all and are now on our second round (this will be our 6th year with them). We never did get the wreath but just light candles each night before we read. We use them as a devotion beginning the first night of Advent all the way through to Christmas Morning (which is the best reading of all). My husband & I take turns reading aloud – then we usually discuss, look further into scriptures, & close the night in prayer. All the boys love it from 16 down to 4 :). We truly enjoyed the Easter version this year as well – what a joy!! Blessings to you & your precious family. ~ Heather

We have the Voskamp wreath now but in years past, I’ve had a homemade advent wreath with a simple fake evergreen wreath and four candles (3 purple and 1 pink) and one big white candle in the middle. When we would do our reading each night, we would like the candles that had been lit so far. So the first week of readings we would light the first candle in our wreath. The second week, we’d light two candles, and so on. On Christmas morning, we would light all the candles including the white candle and do the final reading.

We also have them all and just circle through them.. My boys love them and actually would love it if I just read them to it all at once! It’s hard to wait and after 3 years sometimes you actually forget how or why so it’s exciting all over. Misty

Hi Kathi,
we’ve been reading these for many years. My children love them…my oldest son is now 20 and he still sits in if he’s home.
What’s nice is that each family can make this time their own…there is no wrong way to do this.
For our family I read the story and then dad reads the devotional part. We use an advent wreath and when it’s time to read we turn off all the lights except the lights on the Christmas tree….and I use that light along with the lighted candle. Yes, it’s a little challenging but I just get as close to the candle as I need. My chidlren would have a fit if we changed that tradition.
Our goal is to read every night. There are times when we’ve had to read earlier in the day because of an event in the evening. There have been times I’ve had to read more than one story in a day also.
We’ve gone through Jotham’s at least three times….Bartholomew’s…twice….and we finally were able to get Tabitha’s last year.
I bought our advent wreath at a local Christian book store….last year a friend gave us some candle holders and a wreath to use…so we place the candles around the wreath.
