My MIL and FIL took my four boys to a carnival today so I could have some time to myself. Actually, I needed to do some running because we are leaving for vacation. Well…. I get a phone call less than an hour after they leave to tell me that my seven year old is feeling sick from riding the ferris wheel and wants to come home. So, I cut my shopping trip to Walmart short and quickly check-out. As I pull up to the carnival and pick up my son, my FIL says “Oh, by the way he won these two goldfish.” I said “you have to be kidding me”. He said “”nope they are all yours.” Now I am home with my seven year old (who is feeling just fine by the way) and two goldfish that now need a permanent home. So… we are off to Walmart again to buy a tank and a vacation feeder so they don’t die while we are gone on vacation. Aren’t grandparents great? I truly believe they do these things to us on purpose. By the way, I love my MIL and FIL and this is not a rant, just a good old fashioned “Gotta Love It” story….  Tammy

    Ha ha ha!

That reminded me of when my MIL (who we have a good relationship with BTW) had asked me what she should get my dd for her 5th Birthday. I mentioned something about accesories for her bike, like a basket to hold her treasures or streamers for the handles etc. Then I jokingly said, “she would probably love a bike horn too! But please don’t get her that…it would be aweful!”. My dd has a problem with noise levels and not knowing when something is to loud as well as not knowing when to stop. She laughed with me, seeming to agree. What did she get her?….a nice little basket and a …. VERY LOUD BIKE HORN! She called me and said that she just couldn’t pass it up, ” it was purple (dd favourite color) and had a satin bow on it and made such a unique sound!”. I think this thing has the capability of honking holes through concrete!…UNIQUE! HA! I am thinking of sending her a recording of dd using it for hours on end and see how she feels about it when it’s actually in the same city as she is!

So yes, I agree, Tammy, they do it on purpose! No question! They are probably laughing a blue streak the whole time, too!

    “Linabean”

    That is a great story!

I remember my mom saying to me when I was younger “I can’t wait for you to have kids, you will get your due”. She has probably bought my kids every loud, annoying toy she could within a 30 mile radius of her home. I think she was actually disappointed when my older boys started asking for legos because legos are way too quiet for her liking. Both grandparents get way too much joy from buying those types of things. All kidding aside, I am so thankful for the “grandparents” and I feel so blessed to have them and that we all have good relationships. I know that is not always the case in most families.

He named them Chip and Dale. I have to admit that I forgot how beautiful goldfish are. I used to have some as a child and I also remember how dirty they were. I had to clean the tank out quite frequently. Of course, we didn’t have a tank with a filter, so maybe these won’t be as bad.   Tammy

Sadly, Dale the goldfish died this morning. My seven year old’s heart is broken. It wasn’t even my fault that one of his fish died, this time. I learned my lesson after the last tank of Tetra fish that one should not clean out the tank with Dawn Dishwashing liquid. Fish don’t like it and will go belly up within a couple of minutes.
