Has anyone used the Applications of Grammar book 1?  I was planning on using MFW this school year and had ordered all my materials (this is the grammar book they recommend for 8th grade), but decided to follow SCM instead.  I’m struggling with the grammar to use for my 8th grade daughter.  I’ve tried searching the board but haven’t found any info on the Applications of Grammar book.  I did read that Grammar Made Easy was a good choice and I’m not really interested in plunking down $100 for the Analytical Grammar book.  Besides, I’ve been reading that kids don’t do any grammar in high school, is that true?  I think back to when I was in high school and don’t remember taking any grammar either, they were all literature classes with essay writing.

I’m not familiar with the Applications of Grammar program myself.  If you feel drawn to it I see no reason why you can’t use it.  I understand not wanting to spend so much for AG.  We use ourselves a simple book, Our Mother Tongue, in seventh and eighth grades and then in high school they study Latin and another foreign language, and probably learn more grammar than they did in “grammar class.”  I think the basics are more than easy to teach during junior high and we don’t spend any extra time in high school except when I notice an error or problem.
