I chose Apologia Zoology 2 Swimming Creatures for science in the fall, hoping to finish next year with a big trip to the aquarium.  It came in the mail today and as I opened it up, it stated that zoology 1 was a prerequisite to zoology 2.  Have you found this to be true?  I was under the impression that I could have chosen any one of these books to begin and I would have been fine, but now I’m not sure.

    Thanks!

No sweat – there is an Apologia yahoo group, and this comes up regularily with the Zoology books.

The only real prerequisite to Zoology 2 or Zoology 3 is the FIRST CHAPTER of Zoology 1.  AND the First Chapter is the SAMPLE chapter on the website.  So go, download it, add it to your schedule, and you are all set.

Do you know about the free notebooking pages available?  I think they are on the website, in the special area (there is a password in your book)… they are also on the yahoo group for it.

    No problem.

btw – Jeannine herself has given this answer on the apologia yahoo group… so I am very confident about it.  You might want to search for the yahoo group as sometimes some good info comes up on it (but of course, you might be wanting to limit the number of boards you are on… and although Apologia is CM friendly, not all the resources on the yahoo group is or all the people on it…. )

Heather, we have the exact same plans as you!  We started in March with our first book of Zoo 2 and I did a brief overview of scientific animal classifications from the sample chapt. 1 of Zoo 1.  We are to start Chapt. 5 on Monday.  I hope to get to an aquarium next spring.  I was planning to go straight through the book, but I am thinking of taking a break half-way (after chapt. 6 on fish) to do a different science for maybe a month or so.  Maybe just living books or the Outdoor Secrets.  I estimate 26 weeks for the Zoo 2 book at our current rate, so a break in the middle would be okay.  I chose Zoo 2 because of my kids’ interest in ocean creatures.  They have really enjoyed it.  In fact, I made science the last “book” subject of our day because it is their favorite subject.  Enjoy!

I also supplemented with some living books at bedtime and with some audiobooks.  We read a picture book of a true story of Humphry the Humpback Whale and also a short chapter book of Dolphin Adventure.  They liked it so much, we are going to read the sequal of Dolphin Treasure, soon.  We also read some of Holling C. Holling’s Pagoo about the Hermit Crab.  I may do more of these living books during our one month break after chapt. 6 of Zoo 2.
