Ok I like Apologia. My boys have liked them. But I can see that my girls are not going to enjoy reading from one book all year. Also, I know they are going to be to . . . dry for the girls if that’s even the word I’m looking for. I like the simple all in one of Apologia, the 5 yr cycle which did well until 6th grade (which is what I need) and the basic format. Can anyone suggestion something that they did that might appeal more to a girls eye? I’m wondering how to put together just books from the library maybe???
Hi Misty. My daughter enjoyed the Apologia books a bit here and there but we both quickly bored of doing it all at once. I just allowed my daughter to pick the topic for science and we would get several books from the library on that topic and read and narrate those for science until we were ready to move on to another topic. If she couldn’t think of one, I would pull the apologia book back out and do a section from it for a change. It worked well for us. I also have Considering God’s Creation and we pulled a few units from that as well. My daughter enjoyed creating a few lapbooks for science. We did one on bats that was a lot of fun. I found them free online.
We started using Real Science 4 Kids and all my kids really like it. It’s not as “meaty” as some programs, but it really puts the information on a level the kids can grasp and then you can easily add more “meat” to the topics that grab them. My only complaint is that it’s super pricey. 🙁
