My ds is ready to move out of General Science (probably could have awhile ago) and I think the Physical Science will be good.  I have the 1st edition and am in need of the test/solutions (hopefully I can find a copy) but I thought that maybe the Student Notebook would be helpful to him.  He uses a binder for his On Your Own & Study Guide questions but I feel like he needs more of “workbook” to feel like he’s actually “doing” something.  Hope that makes sense.  I think he feels that he doesn’t have alot to show for the work he does put into his science (and other subjects, for that matter) and I thought this would give him what he feels he needs in one place.  I have used the Donna Young experiment/lab sheets, which work fine, too, but I feel like he needs to “see” the text worked out in a different way.

I would still do narrations w/ him and possibly throw a living book in there, as well.

    Any thoughts??

We just got the student notebook for the General Science book and I think it is wonderful. My daughter, like your son, also benefits from having something concrete to work through, besides just doing her narrations and discussions. The best part about the notebook is that there is a schedule in the front telling her which pages to read and fill out each day so she can basically just be on her own with this book. This is something she has been working towards, being able to work more independently. I highly recommend the notebook. I do think that you would probably need to check into whether or not it would be compatible with the first edition. It does reference page numbers. I am not sure how different the second edition is. If you have a Mardel near you, they carry the notebooks and you could look at it there.

Thank you.  Yes, I was wondering the same thing about the 1st edition compatability.  I’ll check into that OR just get a 2nd edition for him.  He does like the text, and if he would benefit from the notebook, I might as well do it. I was looking at homeschoolclassifieds and there were some for sale.

I did spend alot of time on Donna Young’s website last night and found some more helpful ideas, so we’ll see.  I may let him decide or just not let him decide and get the notebook.  He’s not much of writer, other than narrations, and other than the study guide questions there’s not much else in his binder…I think he’d like the notebook and the pictures.

    Thanks again.
